Professional Background:
Exercise Physiologist working at Enudrance Rehabilitation in Scottsdale, AZ in charge of physiological testing. I am also a USA Triathlon certified coach, coaching triathletes of varying abilities, predominantly in long-course (half Ironman and full Ironman) events.
Family and Personal Background:
Single male and youngest child in a family of 4. 30 year old brother is current roommate, along with his son (my nephew). Parents have been happily married for 35+ years. Born and raised in Albuquerque, NM until moving to Fort Collins, CO for college at CSU. Moved to Scottsdale, AZ upon graduating.
Athletic Background:
Grew up playing team sports of all types as a child. Through high school, focus was on soccer and baseball. Played soccer through college and decided to get involved in triathlon as a way to stay fit through the summers for soccer. Have stuck with triathlon beyond school, completing 3 Ironman distance events, including the world's first off-road Ironman (MXT, Park City, UT 2003).
Why are you involved in Team Donate Life?
Conversations with an Ironman training buddy (who I recently learned is an organ recipient) led us to, what we think, the next "logical" (read ridiculous to many) step in our endurance endeavors. Being blessed to with the possibility to ride across this beautiful landscape with several others presented an opportunity I would be crazy to pass up. Generating awareness about Team Donate Life, and promoting Team Donate Life, while doing it brings reasons more important than a "personal challenge" as to why I am involved with the team. In training for something that will require a significant amount of time for myself, knowing that time will go towards a cause greater than my own satisfaction will be THE driving force in me completing this epic journey across the country. I have also had the opportunity to work with a heart transplant recipient who annually competes in the World Transplant Games. Spending time with him has enlightened me into how doing an event like this for a greater good can be accomplished.
