Family and Personal Background:
| |
I live in Davis, California with my wife Kris. By the time of the ride, we will have been married for twenty eight years. We have a son Justin and a daughter Hilary. Hilary has married Kelly Sharrar, MD, and now they have a daughter of their own, Nina, and are expecting our second grandchild shortly before the time of the ride. Excluding Nina, we also all graduated from UC Davis (though obviously not at the same time!).

I was born in Southern California, grew up Northern California (Sunnyvale), prior to coming to Davis to attend college. I first exposure to Davis was to participate in the Heart of California Double Century my Junior and Senior years in high school.

We attend the same church where Kris and I met many happy years ago. It is a great church where the word of God is faithfully preached; Christian love and sacrificial serving are the norm; and lives of blessing and joy are the end-result.

Athletic Background:
| |
I started running cross country and track as a freshman in high school and continued through my freshman year in college. I started riding fairly seriously my junior year in high school. However, various injuries over the years have limited my athletic pursuits so that its chief purpose in my life is to control my weight, remain relatively healthy, and enjoy time with friends. Over the last decade or so, cycling has been the principle means for accomplishing this goal.

Why are you involved in Team Donate Life?
| |
I go to the same church and enjoy riding with one of the founders of Team Donate Life. In addition, one of my wife’s college roommates has been a kidney donor and one of my son’s college roommates has been a kidney recipient. Finally, organ donation is amazing because it can give sight to the blind, heal the sick, and, in essence, bring the dead back to life. It reminds me of the God I serve!
