  Updates from the RV

6/21/2009 4:59:42 PM

Wow...hard to believe it's not even been 24 hours since the start of the race. So much has transpired in such a short time. We arrived (the RV riders & crew) in Blythe California around 8:00 pm and got three rooms at the Days Inn. All I can say about Blythe is Hot, Deserted, Run Down and sketchy. Not even a stop light! Moral hit a bit low when around 9 pm we learned that Geoff McIntosh...one of our faster riders had crashed and was being taken to the hospital. Also Terry found out that his bike had been dropped and the higher gears were not working. Oooh! I just saw a real cactus out the window of the RV! Lee Anne, being from California is laughing at me about my cactus excitement. Anyway, we all went to bed and tried to sleep knowing that we would have to be up by 12 midnight to transition. Of course no one was able to sleep. 12:30 came quickly and everyone was scrambling to get the bikes on the SUVs and gear together. Off they went to switch teams. Around 2:30 the crew and riders returned from the switch - everyone took a shower and then, once again tried to sleep. Around 5:30 am Lee Anne and I got up to started getting ready. Lee Anne began cooking and I set up the table and started working on the guys. Geoff actually looked great even though he had several very bad scrapes and 6 stitches in his arm. His spirits were great and he's ready to get back out there even though the recommendation is he stay off the course for 24 hours. Now we're off to Cottonwoods AZ to make the next swtich.. more to come.

Update 4:57PM Pacific time Geoff is doing great just really skinned up and 6 stiches in his arm, and of course, we couldn't keep him out of the race so as I write this he's pumping away somewhere in the mountains of Arizona near Flagstaff.  Our team is #4 so far!  The guys raced all day up hill in the heat of the desert but no injuries today so far
